TEACHERS' BIOGRAPHIES

Bulent Karabagli lives in Montreal where he runs the Tango Fabrika Studio, several very popular Milongas, and the  Neo-Tango Festival.  He has impressed audiences worldwide and Toronto audiences by his performances at Toronto Tango Festivals with Marika Landry.
Bulent - trained in Argentina and Europe with many inspiring teachers - is a new generation tango dancer and teacher whose style strongly reflects the traditional roots of tango.  He is well known for his innovative and improvisational approach to tango as well as his fine sense of musicality and elegance.
As a teacher Bulent stresses the importance of investigating the structural foundation of tango, making good contact and communicating clearly, moving smoothly between open and close embrace and developing musical timing. With a keen grasp of these basic elements the dance partners can then find the ease and freedom to bring complexity to their floorcraft and develop their improvisational skills.  Bulent likes to encourage in his students, the sensitivity and confidence needed to experiment with tango. The dance becomes more than its steps. The dance becomes creative communication.

ILONA is an experienced Tango dancer, performer, and instructor, living in Toronto.  ILONA started dancing at the age of 5 and studied many forms of dance including Ballet, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Jazz, Modern Dance, Ballroom, and Salsa.
ILONA fell in love with Tango and trained extensively with more than 50 teachers in Argentina and around the world, including such masters as Carlos Gavito, Gustavo Naveira, Fabian Salas, Chicho Frumboli, El Pulpo, Mauricio Castro, Alex Krebs, Eric Jorgensen and Esteban Moreno. She enjoys the emotion of Milonguero style and the creativity of Nuevo Tango.
An experienced educator, ILONA combines many different teaching techniques to address diverse styles of learning.  She focuses on improving the students’ dance technique foundation, together with leading and following skills, and encourages individual creativity and self expression. ILONA believes that dancing should feel great for both partners.
